Description

Germanium is a hard and brittle material with a semi-metallic greyish-white appearance. It has a density of 5.35 g/cm³, a melting point of 937°C and a vapour pressure of 10-4 Torr at 1,167°C. It is classified as a semi-metal in the periodic table, which means that it has properties of both metals and non-metals. Like silicon, germanium is a semiconductor and is widely used in the manufacture of transistors and integrated circuits. It is often evaporated under vacuum in the manufacture of optical storage media and optical coatings. It is also used as an alloying agent and catalyst.

* This is a recommendation based on our experience with these materials in our sputter guns. Rates are based on unbonded targets and are material specific. Bonded targets should be operated at lower power to avoid bonding failure. Bonded targets should be operated at 20 watts/square inch or less depending on the material.
