Description

Chromium is one of the world’s most popular metals. Chromium is a silvery, lustrous, hard and brittle metal known for its high resistance to mirror polishing and corrosion. It has a melting point of 1,857°C, a density of 7.2 g/cm³ and a vapour pressure of 10-4 Torr at 1,157°C. Its name comes from the Greek ‘chroma’, meaning colour, as it is very colourful. It is widely used in the automotive industry to produce shiny coatings on wheels and bumpers. Chromium is used in many vacuum applications such as automotive glass coating, photovoltaic cell manufacturing, battery manufacturing, decorative and corrosion resistant coatings.

* This is a recommendation based on our experience with these materials in our sputter guns. Rates are based on unbonded targets and are material specific. Bonded targets should be operated at lower power to avoid bonding failure. Bonded targets should be operated at 20 watts/square inch or less depending on the material.
